The saying the good die young is applicable here. Andrea represented the best of our profession - always focused on doing her best and striving to reach further in her professional work. She believed strongly in advancing our profession and giving back at the local, provincial and national level whether mentoring students and recent graduates or serving on boards and committees. I did not know her well but appreciated the quality of the work she produced and the high bar she set for all of us within the planning field who have crossed her path at one point or another. Condolences to the family and her colleagues. Ian Robertson MCIP, RPP Whitehorse, Yukon

I wish to offer my sincere condolences to Andrea's family, for their loss. While I didn't know Andrea well, I had the opportunity to work briefly with her as part of a mid-town campus Master Plan during the time she was the President of the Planners Association. Despite her busy schedule she was a tireless worker and a most enjoyable team leader who clearly had immense experience and talent. I appreciated her charm and warm personality and always hoped to work again with her one day. She was an inspiration.

Andrea was a wonderful colleague and mentor during my time at Urban Strategies, as she has been for so many others. I will always remember Andrea's warmth and the genuine interest she took in other people. And I have always respected how she could combine intellectual rigour and subject matter expertise with humour and a good nature to build bridges with people and ultimately achieve better outcomes for the communities she worked in. She was a real leader in the planning community, and Im privileged to have had a chance to know her and work with her. My sincere condolences to Andrea's family on your loss.

I feel very fortunate to have known Andrea as a friend and a mentor during my time at Urban Strategies and beyond. Andrea's integrity, kindness and joy for life was an important reminder to always be the best person that you can be personally and professionally. As a boss, she had the remarkable ability to be both strong and soft - a rare and admirable trait. Andrea filled our work days with laughter and silliness .... it was a great way to spend the day. Andrea made our endless trips to the UK a fun adventure - filling the time with stories and laughter. Always so much laughter. My condolences to Peter, Brian and Stephanie and the entire family. Andrea was so proud of you all and you helped her to be the amazing and admirable person that she was.

Sad news, my thoughts and prayers are with you all. I have great memories of Andrea as we worked to regenerate Sheffield's Lower Don Valley in the north of England. It's now part of the Northern Powerhouse and the positive change is a tribute to Andrea's skills and personality. It was a pleasure to spend time with her and those memories will always put a smile on my face, including the size of the suitcase and her colleagues who negotiated the obstacle course of steps on British public transport with her. I had the great fortune to work for and ultimately alongside Andrea for 25 years. She taught me a great many things but most importantly that you can have an impactful career and amazing family while still making time for great friends. Many people have told me that Andrea made this all look so easy but my experience with her is that it took steely determination wrapped in a sunny disposition and great humanity. Andrea showed by example that you could have all this except sleep! as long you never let obstacles stop you and you always pushed for the best. I will remember her for this always. Peter, Stephanie and Brian – I am so sorry for your loss. She was an amazing lady and you are each a true credit to her.

So sorry to hear of Andi's passing. I will always remember the Sunday card games for the adults alternating between the Arditis, the Alvos and the Attases not too sure why the Jewish Greek families in TMR all had names starting with A. And the kids would get together and play board games Monotony was a favorite. It was always exciting at the Arditis - as Andi's bedroom was over the dining table where the adults were playing cards. And there was a lovely crystal chandelier above the table, that when we got a little too rambunctious in Andi's room - a very pointy piece of crystal or two would drop and came close to injuring the adults! I managed to see Andi a few times over the years kept moving cities and was so sorry to hear of her decline from Jack. In any case, she is now at peace, and we can but remember her with love.

Dear members of the Gabor family, It is with great sadness that all of us, at the School of Urban Planning at McGill University, learned the news of Andrea's passing. She had been such a devoted friend of the schoolnot just a faithful graduate but also a caring advisor and generous mentor to graduates. Seeing her at McGill, at a conference or at her office was always a treat. Andrea will be missed very, very much, and by many, many people. My colleagues and I give you our most sincere condolences. Peter, while it has been many years since we have crossed paths, we wanted to express our sorrow and surprise in learning of Andi's death, as well as to convey our condolences to you and yours. Sheryl and I also having been married for our whole adult lives and, therefore, have become sort-of a bi-person, it gives us heart-ache to think of half of such a bi-person being torn away.

Peter, In a year marked by loss in our professional and personal worlds, I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Andrea. I feel that we grew up together in both of those worlds, and the parallels in our lives are a source of pride and joy - and now sadness. Andrea was a remarkable and lovely woman, who loved life and all it brought. She was also the consummate professional, whose knowledge and passion could be read in everything she did. In this sad time, may her memory be a comfort to you, your children and your entire family.

This is indeed sad news - heartbreaking, but lightened by the memories of her trademark smile, and her great warmth of personality. I knew Andrea mainly through her CIP works, around her presidency, but especially as a member of the Site Visit Committee for our UMCP accreditation in late 2007. What a delightful person and consummate planner! she will be sorely missed. My deepest condolences.
